Department of Emergency Medicine was established in July 2022. Two faculty members, Professor and Associate Professor have joined and 9 SRs have been appointed. One post of Assistant Professor is vacant. MD Emergency Medicine seats have yet to be sanctioned after the NMC inspection.
Emergency Medicine Department provides :
- 24/7 service for any Medical/ Surgical Emergency or Trauma case, Paediatrics to Geriatrics.
- Code Blue response team 24/7
- Critical lifesaving procedures like endotracheal intubations, central venous lines, thrombolysis (Stroke and Myocardial Infarction) and short term critical monitoring of the patients till they are transferred to a specialized order of care.
- Minor surgical procedures: removal of superficial foreign bodies, superficial wound suturing.
- Burn dressing, wound debridement/ washout, incision, and drainage of superficial abscess.
- Emergency surgical interventions: chest drain insertion, needle thoracotomy, cricothyroidectomy etc.
- Initial screening and treatment of haemodynamically unstable COVID suspects.
- Management of Mass casualty.
- Cynosure of the hospital's disaster response plan. Objectives: >To provide quality education to the undergraduate medical students to enable them to handle medical emergencies efficiently thereby improving overall healthcare.
- To develop Human resources for emergency medical care by quality teaching and training of postgraduates of emergency medicine as future faculty of emergency medicine.
- To develop Human resources for emergency medical care by quality teaching and training of nurses and emergency technicians thereby improving in hospital and prehospital care of patients.
